YAY! Summer is here, and it is soooo nice to be away from the classroom and just doing your own thing. Although I haven’t been in the classroom for several years due to creating my own educational products, blogging, coaching teachers about interventions and working with teachers to start their own digital products businesses… I still feel that undeniable excitement of being “out of school for the summer”!! And boy, does it feel terrific! ๐Ÿ™‚

What teachers secretly do in the summer. #summer #teacherkarma

What do teachers do all summer?

I find it hilarious when my “non-teacher friends” ask me what I could possibly do all summer while we’re out of school. Really? Did you just ask that crazy question – we all know they are just a little bit jealous? OMG! If we didn’t have the summer to recharge, I don’t think most of us would even begin to come back in August. LOL! ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, and keep reading because I also have a FUN FREEBIE just for teachers at the end of this article.

So, in honor of my “other” friends (although like 99% are classroom teachers), I want to share with you…

12 Things Teachers Secretly Like to Do in the Summer!!

  1. End of the Year PARTY: I am always super excited to get together with all my teacher friends and celebrate the beginning of summer. At this point, we do not miss kids of any kind. JK ๐Ÿ™‚
  2. Nap: Wow, teachers, you know this is so true. We have to completely recharge after all those crazy last few days of school. The last three days of school kind of feel like a whole semester all by themselves.
  3. Hide From Students: Admit it. Go ahead. We actually do hide from students (any student in the whole school) when we go to the pool, grocery store, and even the movies. You know you do itย all year long in the summer.
  4. Messy Buns & NO MAKEUP: This has to be one of my fav’s!!! I LOVE being able to kick back, throw my hair in a wild bun, and totally forget that makeup even exists. Smiling so big right now.
  5. Shop the Target Dollar Spot: You might think we would leave this one alone since we do it all year long, but no, no, no, we don’t. I am addicted to seeing what’s in the Dollar Spot. You really need to go every day in the summer because you have no idea what day they’ll start putting out that amazing teacher stuff. It goes too fast too.
  6. Read: Love, love, love to read fiction in the summer! I’m going old school for my first novel, A Wrinkle in Timeย by Madeleine L’Engle. I saw the movie last year and fell in love, so I just had to read it again. Oops… maybe that is a little bit “teachery.”
  7. Cocktails: So, I really wanted to put this one first, but I thought I would sneak it into the middle. I do not need to explain this one to teachers… or moms…
  8. Go to the Teacher Store: Ok, about July-ish, we really start to feel that tiny little tug. Plus, we don’t want to miss out on the new classroom decor stuff. I secretly try to get the newest designs before my teacher neighbors do. Ha!
  9. Color: …like in coloring books with crayons. My current fav is #TEACHERLIFE A Snarky Chalkboard Coloring Book. It is so much fun and really hilarious!
  10. Daily Countdown: From the very first day of summer break, we teachers are counting down the days until we return back to school. LOL
  11. Plan: Yes, you knew I was going to say it. We start planning again for the next year. With all of the cocktails, reading, hiding from students, and more cocktails, we actually do care so much about our students, and we start missing that familiar school bell.
  12. Make Lists: Teachers LOVE making lists of just about any kind. I actually make lists for my lists. Kind of sad. Keep reading for FREEBIE! ๐Ÿ™‚
